Interesting Story
These photos were submitted to us by Woody at woodface@viponline.com.
Early in January 1997 we had a bit of
snow fall one night. It was very cold outside but our son wanted to go
on the deck out our backdoor for a few minutes and play in it. He went
out and my wife got the camera for some pictures of him playing. She
opened the back door and was shooting around it without going outside
herself. I remembered this when she reminded me that I was complaining
about her letting all that cold air in. She was not shooting through
the glass. (I should insert here that I graduated with a degree in
photography and have worked in a professional lab for the last 11
years. I know enough about it to know how to question what makes things
happen in photos.)
The camera is designed so it would have been extremely difficult for a
finger to be in front of the lens. There was noone else outside. She
is shooting him from a distance of about 10 feet with a flash on the
camera and a light on the deck just above her left shoulder. The strap
is hanging broken off the back side of the camera. There is a series of
4 shots, but strangely enough there is one blank frame with absolutely
nothing on it just before the last one, which was the last frame on the
roll.
It would seem like something just got in front of the camera until you
get to the one where it comes out from the side and has space all around
it. I have passed them around work to solicit ideas for what it was
with no good explanations yet.
Here is the most strange thing about the whole thing. My wife just got
these processed on Sunday, several weeks since they were shot. On
Saturday, late in the afternoon, she was looking out the kitchen window
over the back yard and said she saw moving in
the yard. This was the first time she ever saw anything quite like
that, and then the next day we got these pictures back. She said it was
like what she had seen Saturday.
