'F' Street Orbs

These photos are from IGHS member Ralph Soliz of cosmic@ecis.com.

Ralph said, "The two enclosed photo's were taken at the foot of "F Street" which served as the loading dock for the Empire Mine and Coal Company from the mid-1800's to about 1900. A steamer would pull coal cars and even citizens from our foothill mining towns to river barges headed for San Francisco and Sacramento and beyond. As the nation turned to oil and eventually gas and electricity, the coal mines were shipping sand for companies making glass products until it became cheaper to buy from other sources. The last of the great railroad tracks ended here at the foot of "F Street". the tracks and docks are long gone but the area's two museum's keep the memory alive as so to do the various landmarks in and around the greater east county area. Both photos August 20, 1998 just after sunset with a Sony Mavica FD71.Both frames taken within 6 feet distance. Weather was pleasant, no wind, no straps, just orbs."
