Reality of Reality Ghost Hunting Shows
Dr. Dave Oester
One of the first questions I am asked is what about the many ghost hunting reality shows, are they real or faked for entertainment. My response is these reality shows are for entertainment and have staged scenes and props to provide their evidence.
One such show showed the main character carrying around an axe for protection. Get real. How is an axe going to protect a person from someone who is dead. Ghosts are not walking zombies that can be killed. Ghosts are dead. It is stupid to suggest that ghost hunters need to carry an axe or some other weapon to protect them from ghosts.
Reality ghost shows rely upon fear and dread to sell the show and get the high ratings so they can attract sponsors. This is why viewers always see someone running and screaming on the show like a bunch of foolish teenagers out for a scare. True ghost hunting is not about fear or dread, but about learning about life after death. Ghosts are not scary or dangerous. Ghosts are people without human bodies who have retained their intelligence, their emotions, and their personalities from their mortal life. Ghosts are not demons or evil.
Television creates shows to entertain us, not to teach us the proper methods for ghost investigations. Watch these reality shows as comedies and entertainment, but never as examples of good ghost hunting techniques. The ghost hunters are paid actors. If you dig deep enough, you will find that take the money away then the paid actors will vanish from the scene.
I remember one show where the ghost hunters paid someone to toss a black sheet over their head and run down an narrow hallway, the only problem was that viewers could see their white tennis shoes below the sheet. The ghost hunters claimed this was a valid ghost captured on film. Yea right. After we posted this video on our web site, we got death threats from these people, it seemed they did not like having their fraudulent video exposed to the public.
