Haunted Mill

I was one of the participants in the November 7, 1998 Ghost Photography Workshop, and have a story and some photos to share. After we had all left the second photo site to go home when the weather wouldn't clear, I went to Redmond to get my room, then I went back to the Haunted Mill again alone. There was something about the place that fascinated me, and I was a bit disappointed that the weather wouldn't clear to take photos at the second site and wanted to shoot another role (I had only taken one roll when we were at the Mill as a group). It was a bit frightening to be there alone, especially after remembering Sharon saying something about not wanting to be there alone at night, but I've always been an adventurous type. Still, I parked my vehicle pointed toward the main road with the door open and overhead light on, if the need for a quick getaway arose!

At first I was too chicken to go into inside the buildings alone, so most of my photos were taken through windows, doorways, or holes in the walls. Towards the end, however, I forced myself to go inside the building to the West (where those globes with me in the pictures were photographed). Feeling quite spooked, I took a couple of photos inside of there and then got the hell out of Dodge!! The first photo I took while inside the building is the attached jpeg file titled "ghost1.jpg". The second photo taken while inside the building (of a different area) showed some very faint "ectoplasm" - type white mist, but it is so faint that I didn't include it. I find it interesting that my best photo was taken when I made myself actually go into the building (and both inside shots showed something), while all of the other shots taken through openings in the walls showed absolutely nothing except for one slight, unspectacular wisp of white. It almost feels like they were "daring" me to come inside alone, and when I finally did, rewarded me with that photo (but that's just idle speculation). Pretty weird, though.

The second photo I attached, "ghost2.jpg", was taken when we were there as a group. The previous photo on that roll was taken of the same location and seems to show the beginning of a faint area of white (I didn't include it because it was so faint). I seem to have an unclear memory of feeling like I should photograph a certain location again, and since these are the only two consecutive shots of the same location on that roll, logic says this must have been the location. I cannot, however, be absolutely, 100% certain that this "ghost2" photo is uncontaminated, because there were times shooting the first roll when I wasn't paying close attention to breath vapor. The "ghost1" photo, however, was from the second role when I went back to the Mill alone, and that time I was keeping aware of breath vapor. Next day, on my way back to Camas, I stopped at the Mill yet again to see it in the daylight. It's amazing how much courage daylight gives you!! I didn't have a problem going inside the buildings alone in the daylight.
