The Wedding Visitor

This was submitted to us by Lori of Montreal, Quebec.

The wedding took place in a French Roman Catholic church, Eglise Sainte Madeleine, in Montreal. We were particularly impressed with this one hundred year old church, full of wonderful woodwork and stained glass, and a vaulted plaster ceiling."

"Quebec is a providence with a very rich Roman Catholic background. Up until very recently, the church was very involved in every aspect of people's life, including politics, and was consequently very powerful. The population was very god fearing and attended church regularly. In older neighborhoods, there are similar churches everywhere; in fact, I believe it was Mark Twain who visited Montreal in the mid-1800's and proclaimed that a rock couldn't be thrown in Montreal without breaking a church window."
